Animal Farm, is Orwell’s attempt of a satirical tale against Stalin. The novella narrates the transformation of Manor Farm into Animal Farm when the animals of the farm stage a revolution against its owner. Led by two young pigs, Snowball and Napoleon and backed up by a core team of hard workers like the workhorse Boxer and wisecracker- Benjamin the donkey, the animals were able to establish absolute control of the farm through ‘animalism’. This ‘animalism’ is seen as an allegorical reference to ‘communism’- which begins with the idea of ‘equal right to all animals’. But soon it becomes a stinking tale of totalitarian dictatorship where all rules of equality and welfare are twisted and all voices of rebellion brutally crushed. The presentation of this political satire through its imperishable characters and fabulous fable weaves a stable web if merciless authority, absolute greed and stoic cynicism-the reality of which is a pertinent today as it was in 1945 when it was first published.
